Our Services

Ship Visits

Our volunteers, who have extensive knowledge of the maritime industry, visit vessels to inform seafarers directly about all the services available through Stella Maris.
By going on board ships, we are able to provide seafarers with detailed information about our services, in the Port of Castellón and the city itself.
During these visits, volunteers take the time to understand individual needs and offer a warm welcome, practical assistance and guidance whenever required.

Transport

We operate a nine-seat minibus, generously provided by the ITF, which enables us to collect seafarers on demand and bring them to the Stella Maris Centre before returning them safely to their vessels.
From our Centre, located in the maritime district, seafarers can easily reach Castellón city centre, which is approximately four kilometres away. The TRAM service starts immediately next to our premises and provides direct access to the historic city centre and major shopping areas.
An exceptional launch boat service is also available for seafarers visiting the BP terminal.

Stella Maris Centre

Our facilities are specifically designed to meet the needs of crew members who often have limited time ashore. The Centre includes a reception area staffed by personnel, refreshments including coffee and soft drinks, a meeting room, television lounge, kitchen facilities, changing rooms and a small chapel. Additional services available to seafarers include:

Telephone cards
Souvenirs
Currency exchange assistance

Leisure and Sports

After long and demanding periods at sea, seafarers have the opportunity to participate in sports activities, excursions and guided visits to places of interest throughout Castellón and the surrounding province.
Basketball matches can also be organised for ship crews on the sports court located opposite the Centre, next to the Port Gardens.

Advice and Support

Stella Maris provides legal and trade union advice regarding working conditions and seafarers’ employment and wage rights.
Where necessary, we can refer cases to qualified organisations and specialists dedicated to protecting seafarers’ rights.
We also facilitate access to healthcare services and can provide hospital accompaniment when required.
In addition, we work closely with the Red Cross and Cáritas to coordinate support for any social welfare needs that may arise.

Religious Services

The well-being of seafarers also includes spiritual care.
St Peter’s Parish in El Grao de Castellón oversees pastoral support and the celebration of Catholic religious services, including Masses, Christmas celebrations and the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Patroness of Seafarers.
At the same time, Stella Maris promotes interfaith dialogue and supports all seafarers without distinction of religion, culture or ethnic background.
Upon request and with prior notice, Masses can also be celebrated on board ships.
